While other consoles were able to use CDs and DVDs to play other media such as movies, Nintendo GameCube was designed for gaming only. The main rivals of the console were Sony PlayStation 2, Xbox and Dreamcast made by Sega. It was released in the United States and Japan in 2001 and the following year in Europe and Australia. The console was designed completely to buy Nintendo and also referred to as DOL.
